Amjad Pervez, a well-known singer from Pakistan, will be in Chicago during the first week of August and it is hoped that he will perform in Houston and the Raleigh-Durham area. In the past, most of his concert performances have taken place either in Pakistan or the UK. As a young artist, Amjad Pervez started his career from Radio Pakistan, Lahore. Since then, he has contributed significantly as a singer towards promoting and presenting Pakistani music in Pakistan and abroad. Among his repertoire are hundreds of melodies in folk, classical and the classical 'Kheyal' format, which he has performed on television, radio and on live stage in Pakistan. In March of 2000, he received the "Pride of Performance Award."

Pervez received his training under the guidance of Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, Ustad Nazakat Ali Khan and Mian Sheheryar of "Sham Chaurasi Gharana." In 1974, he introduced the concept of "fusion" by introducing Western musical instruments in Pakistani music on PTV's program "Sangat." As his clear and melodious voice had already captivated the public and other musicians, this new genre of music was not only received well but it was also adapted by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in the nineties, which rose him to fame. Three most recent CD's released by this artist are "Tera Intezar" and "Janaan", (Ghazals) and' Tere Naam" (Naats). Aside from music, Pervez is currently working for NESPAK as an engineer, the largest Consulting House in Pakistan.
